Ah, the studio name… its origin can be traced back to the days when arcades were the hangout of choice. The time when a quarter could engross you in a game for an entire 2 minutes. The sense of exploration, the addiction, the classic gameplay… these are all elements we’re building upon. Coin App is a combination of old meets new. Arcade game machines are referred to as coin-operated, or coin-ops. “App” is the common term for a software application. These two words get it on, and 9 months later (coincidentally, our ideal development cycle) a Coin App is born!
Coin App’s luxurious office space is set in the historic Biltmore neighborhood in downtown Phoenix. The building was constructed in 1977, and the office was originally used as a “spare bedroom.” There are a few dog stains on the carpet from the previous owner (who happens to be the current owner also). Space is limited, so the server room is the closet. We are within walking distance of a few bars, a bank, some neighbors, and I think a dog park. At least it smells like a dog park in the backyard. When we need to expand, we’ll most likely squeeze a guy in the server room. It could probably fit a few more, but I think that’s illegal.
